Don’t wait for your rego label, get it right away at VTNZ. We can also line up your WoF and rego renewal dates so you can get them all sorted at once.

What is a vehicle licence?

Vehicle Licensing means paying a fee to use your vehicle on public roads. This is the label that is displayed at the bottom left of your windscreen. Most vehicles in New Zealand must be registered and display a valid Vehicle Licence (also known as rego).

Get it all done at once

Why not renew your Vehicle Licence (Rego) while you’re getting your WoF? Our staff can help you save time by lining up your WoF and Rego renewal dates so you can get them all sorted at once – just ask them.

The process for renewing your vehicle licence

What will you need?

  • A current WoF or CoF (Certificate of fitness) – except for light trailers
  • Your vehicle’s licence plate number
  • Payment for the period you would like to renew for (this can any time between 1 to 12 months)

Tip: If you want to register a car under more than one person, call the NZ Transport Agency – they’ll add additional details in the vehicle registration system.

What will it cost?

NZTA will send you a renewal notice in the mail, four weeks before your rego expires. This includes information about the costs and your options.

You can also find out what the new cost of your rego is at, by entering your licence plate number.
