What is a vehicle licence?

Vehicle licencing means paying a fee to use your vehicle on public roads. This is the label that is displayed at the bottom left of your windscreen. Most vehicles in New Zealand must be registered and display a valid Vehicle Licence (also known as a Rego).

Get it all done at once

  • Your vehicle’s licence plate number
  • Payment for the period you would like to renew for (this can any duration between 1 and 12 months or up to 15 months)

What will it cost?

Waka Kotahi will send you a renewal notice in the mail, four weeks before your Rego expires. This includes information about the costs and your options.

You can also find out what the new cost of your Rego is at, by entering your licence plate number.
