How do I join the VTNZ team?

It’s great you want to join us. There’s just a wee bit of paperwork to complete before we can welcome you to the team.

  • Our governing body, NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), needs to pre-approve your application to be a vehicle inspector. They require you to have a Trade Certificate or National Certificate (Level 4 NZ Standards) qualification AND three years’ on-highway truck mechanical experience; OR five years cumulative truck mechanical experience.
  • We need a personal statement from you, and your employers, verifying your qualifications and experience. Below are two templates you can use.
  • We also need a copy of:
    • your trade qualifications (if relevant)
    • your driver licence
    • a Police Certificate (for immigration purposes)

Yes there’s a bit of paperwork required from different Government departments to make this happen. But we’ll work with you to make it as easy as possible. To help you understand what else to expect, here are some Immigration guidelines.

The good news is that VTNZ is an accredited employer with New Zealand Immigration under the Talent (skilled migrants) Visa, so once you start your immigration application it should be fast-tracked.
