DRIVER TESTING SERVICES DURING COVID-19 ALERT LEVELS

COVID-19 ALERT LEVEL 1 DRIVER TESTING SERVICES
In Alert 1, all driver testing services will resume as normal with the following exceptions:

  • Support people, including translators, can now accompany you on your driver test.
  • Your Driver Testing Officer may be wearing a mask. They will also ask you a series of COVID-19 related questions. Please do not be offended when they ask these questions as they are for the safety of everyone visiting our branches.
  • Please note if you travel from an area that is in Alert 2 to undertake your driver test at a branch that is under Alert Level 1, COVID Alert Level 2 health and safety procedures will apply to you and your Support Person. This means your Support Person may be required to wear a mask.

COVID-19 ALERT LEVEL 2 DRIVER TESTING SERVICES
In Alert 2, we will be adhering to strict health and safety procedures whilst conducting driver tests. Our Driver Testing Officers will be wearing masks while in an applicant’s car and will wash their hands between each test. We encourage you to bring your own mask and wear that during your test. If you are bringing a Support Person with you, they may also be required to wear a mask throughout the test.

Please note if you are travelling from an area that is in Alert 2 to undertake your driver test at a branch that is in Alert Level 1, COVID Alert Level 2 health and safety procedures will apply to you and your Support Person. This means your Support Person may be required to wear a mask.

We ask that whilst visiting our branches you keep a one metre distance between yourself and all other customers and staff members, ensure your hands are sanitised and that your vehicle is clean and clutter free.

Please make yourself familiar with the procedure you will need to follow when coming for your driving test.

Before Your Test:

  1. We will send you a text message before your test with the option to reschedule if you are unwell, have been in contact with any COVID-19 cases, or require a support person or a translator on the test. Please do not hesitate to reschedule if you are feeling unwell or have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19. If you turn up to your test and we feel you are sick or we find out you have been in contact with COVID-19 your test will not be conducted and you will be rescheduled to a future date.
  2. You must apply in advance of your test date to bring a Support Person or translator on the test with you. To apply, please email supportperson@vtnz.co.nz immediately if you require a Support Person or translator to accompany you and include the following information:

Reason you need a Support Person:

  1. Before coming for your test please ensure that you clean your vehicle and make sure that it is clutter free so as to reduce the risk of any infection.

Upon Arriving at your Test: 

  1. Park your vehicle and read the Driver Testing Customers instructions on the reception door
  2. On arrival for your test you will be met at the entrance by a staff member (if you are not, your Driver Testing Officer will take you through step 6 and 7).
  3. We will ask for your contact details to put in our COVID-19 register should we need to contact you again.
  4. You will be asked a series of COVID-19 related questions. Please do not be offended when we ask these questions as they are for the safety of everyone visiting our branches.

Checking in for Your Test:

  1. Please check for and read any COVID-19 Health & Safety signage on the exterior of the building before entering your test location.

During Your Test:

  1. We will have limited waiting room in our branch waiting areas. Only bring the necessary person with you as per your driver license supervisor conditions.
  2. For your safety and theirs, your Driving Testing Officer may be wearing a mask whilst conducting the test. You are encouraged to bring your own mask and wear that during your test.

After the Test: 

  1. You will need to provide an email address at the start of the test for your test results. We are unable to print test results during Alert Level 2.
  2. You will be required to supply you own pen for signing the temporary license and completing any required paperwork so please ensure you bring on with you.
  3. When your test is completed (not prior) you may be required to complete the DL1 form (photo and signature) before your temporary license is issued. Your Driver Testing Officer will give you instructions if this needs to happen.
